2008 “Herding Cats” West Cape South African Merlot-Pinotage 

Winemaker Comments: 80% Merlot and 20% Pinotage, this is a vibrant red wine with soft edges and distinct flavors – smooth and supple with aromas of cherry, vanilla and mocha tones, exuding flavors of strawberry jam and rich plum, and a spicy black pepper finish to the palate, along with a smoky complexity. The palate is soft and velvety with a lingering aftertaste following through.

2008 “Herding Cats” West Cape South African Chenin Blanc-Chardonnay  

Winemaker Comments: 80% Chenin Blanc and 20% Chardonnay, the palate combines the creaminess and tropical fruit flavors of Chardonnay (80%) with the apricot and mineral flavors of Chenin. This wine has a bouquet dominated by peach, lemon, and a touch of delicate white flower. I believe the art of winemaking is to create balance-from having the right amount of skin contact to extract flavor and color without getting too much tannin to leaving the wine to age in barrels or on staves for the optimal amount of time without overpowering the delicate flavor of the fruit. This is a crisp, fresh white wine with soft, smooth edges and ripe flavors; intense aromatic nose of floral, apple, citrus and melon. Altogether, a wine of refreshing flavors of bright lemon, honeydew, and succulent green apples, with light hints of tropical fruit and figs, with a clean light finish for this perfectly balanced white wine.
